Empty Sky Zen is a Zen Buddhist Sangha in the lineage of Suzuki Roshi. We offer weekly sitting (zazen) and walking meditation, zazen instruction, and small group discussions on Zen Buddhism. Our guiding teacher is Ryushin Paul Haller, Co-Abbot of the San Francisco Zen Center, and our local priest is Ann Baker.
Shunryu Suzuki Roshi was the founder of the San Francisco Zen Center and the author of Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind which is a collection of his talks about Zen and life.
The San Francisco Zen Center includes City Center in San Francisco; Green Gulch Farm, an intentional community and organic farm; Tassajara Zen Mountain Monastery, home of the classic Tassajara Bread Book and a number of later books devoted to a wide range of vegetarian cooking.
We welcome anyone interested in Zen Buddhism and invite you to contact Ann at 602-820-5233 for more information or to schedule zazen instruction. Empty Sky Zen is located on the north side of Camelback Mountain in Paradise Valley. We also have a retreat space in Camp Verde, about 30 minutes south of Sedona.
